Ireland looks to build on a last minute win away in the French capital by taking on Italy at the Aviva Stadium. Ireland will be looking to secure a big win here to show their worth in this tournament.
Ireland have plenty to prove following a disappointing opening game, which though hampered by the weather lacked for them any real sort of control, with Jonny Sexton slotting over a HUGE drop goal to steal the win from the French.
1 Minutes – Peter O’Mahony makes an early break for Ireland from the kick-off. Italy regain control after looking in trouble and clear for a lineout.
2 Minutes – Italy with ball in hand start to run through the hands, but Tommaso Boni throws a loose pass to and the ball goes out for a lineout.
3 Minutes – Tadgh Furong is off already. It appears it could possibly be hamstring but no confirmations yet. Andrew Porter comes on to replace him.
4 Minutes – Italy take a quick lineout, the move breaks down and they kick into the 22, but Rob Kearney takes a mark.
7 Minutes – Penalty for Ireland, they decide to kick into the Italy 22 rather than taking points. Clear signs of Irelands intentions in this game.
12 Minutes – TRY & Conversion – Ireland 7-0 Italy
Plenty of line breaks from Stockdale and Henderson, but it’s Henshaw who crosses the line. Sexton with conversion.
13 Minutes – TRY & Conversion – Ireland
Parisse with a loose pass and Ireland get possession in the Italy half. Great hands on the short side from Earls and Stockdale creates an opening on the outside for Toner, he then plays a switch with Murray who takes an easy run down the wing to dot down. Sexton again slots the extra’s.
22 Minutes – TRY & Conversion – Ireland 21-0 Italy
Aki scores for the homeside with Sexton again slotting the extra points.
32 Minutes – TRY & Conversion – Ireland 28-0 Italy
Leavy earns a turnover for Ireland and Aki gives the dummy before breaking through the gap, shows great gas to entice the last man and Aki throws a nice pass out to Earls who takes it down the wing unopposed.
38 Minutes – Italy finally earn an oppurtunity after forcing the penalty from Ireland at the ruck, they go for the lineout but fumble it, Ireland get the scrum and that is the half.
41 Minutes – Roux’s first touch is a knock on and but Italy get the free kick at the scrum.
47 Minutes – TRY & Conversion – Ireland 35-0 Italy
Parisse with a loose pass to Allan as the 10 and 8 try a wraparound, Henshaw gathers the pass to Allan from the big number 8 and he charges off to score, he does himself some damage in the process of scoring though and is off with gas and air.
52 Minutes – Ireland push Italy close again, with a penalty on the cards for Ireland, they kick through and Italy run out in their own try line with the ball. Ireland going for a lineout.
53 minutes – TRY Ireland 40-0
Driving maul from the lineout ends in a try for Rory Best, Italy crumbling away.
Conversion – Carberry on for Sexton adds the points.
56 Minutes – TRY FOR ITALY – Allan – Ireland
Castello breaks through, he takes on the last defender and finds Allan who runs a great line to go in unapposed.
59 Minutes – Penalty given away for Italy and Ireland which they put into the corner for another lineout.
61 Minutes – TRY – Ireland 49-7 Italy
The forwards have a go, but the ball is spread wide and Stockdale finds a gap to power through and under the posts.
65 Minutes – TRY – Ireland 49 – Italy 14
Minozzi steps Larmour and feeds Parisse. He then passes back inside for Gori to dive over the line.
70 Minutes – TRY – Stockdale
Ireland 54-14 Italy
Italy putting Ireland under pressure, but another pass on the gain line puts the ball into Stockdales hands and he is gone, a tidy bit of footwork puts paid to the last defender. Carberry adds the two.
